The future of Kingston high street looks bleak with the news that camera giant, Jessops and record retailer HMV are going into administration.

Staff working at Jessops on Clarence Street are just a handful of the 1370 job losses the news entails.

And it's just one of the 187 stores set to close across the country

Staff working at HMV, situated in the Bentalls Centre in Kingston will be part of 4,000 jobs under threat.

HMV has been trading for the last 92 years, with 236 stores dotted across the country.

Interesting Fact

Nipper the HMV dog was buried in Kingston upon Thames, in a small park surrounded by Magnolia trees.

As time progressed the area was built upon, a branch of Lloyds TSB now occupies the site.

On the wall of the bank, just inside the entrance, a brass plaque is displayed on the wall commemorating the famous terrier which lies beneath the building.
