Community Pubs Month in Kingston: Your favourites
By RachelEngland | Thursday, April 19, 2012, 16:50
April is Community Pubs Month, and what better excuse to enjoy a cold bevvy down your local? Honestly, it's good for the economy: 16 pubs a week close down because of rising costs, underinvestment and threat of demolition, so quaff that pint safe in the knowledge you're doing so for a good cause.

Which is your favourite community pub?
Pubs around the Kingston area that are formally involved with Community Pubs Month include The Willoughby Arms, Surbiton's Duke of York and New Malden's Bar Malden.
But as the campaign's ethos is to increase footfall in all local pubs, we asked you on Twitter for your favourites. Seems you're an enthusiastic bunch when it comes to promoting your local, but the top three were: The Cocoanut on Mill Street, The Druid's Head in the Market Place, and Clifton Road's Norbiton & Dragon.
What do you think? Is your boozer better? Let us know!

Thanks for your thoughts, Stephen. In this article we just wanted to highlight the feedback we'd already been given. Don't worry, we recognise how valuable an asset the Canbury Arms is to Kingston. Don't forget you can add information about their event and news to the listings and news pages for free!

ReportI think you have forgotten to mention the Canbury Arms (@thecanburyarms). As a community pub, they must be the strongest in the area, running all manner of events and being the main sponsor of the Canbury Singers (http://tinyurl.com/7ykza2w), a local community choir that performs at a number of local events. The Canbury Arms also raises money for local charities through participation in events like the Rotary Club Dragon Boat Race and Great River Race: the Canbury Boys team were even recognised at the Kingston Sports Awards last year for their money raising efforts. The pub hosts fundraising quiz nights for local schools and organisations and Mike, Charlotte and the team are always looking for new ways to get involved with the community.
