A burglar who targeted houses across Kingston, Sutton and Merton has been jailed for six years.

33-year-old Mariusz Zielinski admitted to 13 residential burglaries and asked for further 47 to be taken into consideration.

Over a period of 18 months, he would enter properties which he thought were empty during the day.

Police said he would steal whatever he could get his hands on, including electrical goods, jewellery and perfume which he would later give to his girlfriend.

He was tracked down after failing to turn up at Kingston Crown Court for sentencing, after being convicted at Wimbledon Magistrates Court for a burglary in Merton in October last year.

Offices found him at an address in Stanley Road, Croydon.

Detective Sgt Chris Grant, of the South West Area Crime Squad said: "The whole investigation has taken many months whereby we have managed to return a large amount of property to its rightful owners. I am pleased we have managed to remove a prolific burglar from our streets."

Police advise local residents to photograph their valuable items like jewellery and to record serial numbers of electrical items because this would help police to recover their property if it was stolen
