Police have identified the body of a man pulled out of the Thames earlier this month as Jamie Daniel Smith from Kingston University.
The death of the 19-year-old from Grimsby is being treated as unexplained by not suspicious.
A passerby walking on the Twickenham side of the River reported a body in the river close to Barge Walk on Sunday morning.
A body was recovered later that day.
Jamie Smith was in the second year of a medical biochemistry degree at Kingston University.
His course director, Dr Nigel Page, said staff and students at the School of Life Sciences had been shocked and saddened to learn of his death.
"Jamie was an extremely polite and courteous young man, who was always able to express himself well," Dr Page said. "He was heavily involved in university life and was a course representative – a role he performed extremely diligently."
"Jamie will be very much missed by staff and students alike."
