A woman living in Kingston has been given a suspended sentence for falsely claiming £12,000 in housing benefit.
Katarina Paulickova, 31, of Galsworthy Road, was convicted last month at Kingston Crown Court for making false representations in order to obtain housing benefit.
On two occasions she stated she lived alone when in fact her partner was living with her at the same address.
On the second occasion she had had a child with her partner. Ms Paulickova went on to marry her partner and father of her child whilst continuing to claim housing benefit.
She was found guilty of two counts of benefit fraud which resulted in an overpayment of £11,301.21 in housing benefit.
She received a five week custodial sentence, suspended for 12 months, and was ordered to carry out 120 hours unpaid work within 12 months.
Judge Coello told Ms Paulickova that she had made a gain from the public purse which could be ill afforded as it was a huge drain on public funds.
