Parkwood Healthcare Ltd has been given the job of monitoring Kingston's health care services over the course of the next two years.

The company will operate as an official watchdog which will provide public information and advice about health and social care services, and hear complaints.

Healthwatch Kingston, a social enterprise body independent of the council, will promote the involvement of local people in monitoring.

One of the ideas is to give people a better understanding of what's available to them health wise.

They'll also carry out investigations and conduct quality control checks.

It's a government requirement to ensure patients have a say in how services are run.

Councillor Penny Shelton, Kingston Council's Lead Member for Healthy Living and Adult Services, said: "Healthwatch Kingston will give the local community influence over those who commission and run services."

"Providers must be responsive to what matters to the people they serve."

The appointment follows a competitive tendering process.
