Everyone in Kingston Upon Thames is waking up to a light dusting of snow today.

But luckily today, and much to the dismay of many school children, it's business as usual.

School closures

Each school makes they're own decision on whether to keep the school open or not.

The best thing to do is to contact the school directly, however, you won't be the only one doing this, so keep your eyes peeled and your ears to ground on other sources of information.

You can find out school closures across the county by clicking this link.

107.8 Radio also broadcasts information regarding school closures and they also display information across South West London on their website.

Driving in the snow

Surrey County Council have insured that 39 gritters are on standby to grit and clear the main roads, should it all get a little bit chilly.

51 Farmers have also registered to help with spreaders and ploughs.

When driving around residential streets, be sure to remember stopping distances.  A higher gear will give less torque, meaning that the wheels have less of a tendency to spin.

Using a low gear on the other hand, provides better breaking for the vehicle.

The AA advises in cases of extreme weather conditions, drivers should carry a shovel, thick blanket and a spare tyre at all times.

Looking after the vulnerable

Cold conditions can be a treacherous for the vulnerable people living in Kingston.

Be sure to keep an eye on relatives and neighbours who you feel might be suffering from the cold.

The Forecast

Patchy light snow initially, clearing away this morning, with temporary dry and brighter conditions following. Rain and perhaps sleet then settling in this afternoon.

Good luck everyone!
