Young Kingston athletes shine against other London borough athletes

A number of Kingston teenagers have proved they have what it takes against a 1,000 London runners during a cross-country run.

Kingston's girls finished ninth overall out of 32 teams representing boroughs across the capital, and the boys 14th in the Balfour Beatty London Youth Games 2013 Cross Country event held at Parliament Hill.

Double Olympic champion Mo Farah represented Hounslow at the same event and course in 1994.

Team Kingston finished as follows in each category, with the best-placed Kingston individuals named in brackets:

Under 13 Girls: 9th (Amelia Maguire, 20th)

Under 13 Boys: 10th (Michael Moran, 43rd)

Under 15 Girls: 13th (Jessica Wenlock, 34th)

Under 15 Boys: 10th (Aaron Farr, 19th)

Under 17 Girls: 6th (Laura Cook, 16th)

Under 17 Boys: 22nd (Matthew Stevens, 49th)

Team Kingston's boys and girls were managed by the Thames Turbo Triathlon Club.

Jim Desmond, Team Kingston's Cross-Country Team Manager, said:

"I was so proud of the Kingston team – everyone conducted themselves brilliantly."

Many of the young people competing in the London Youth Games could become Olympians and Paralympians of the future.
