So, as I am looking for somewhere to meet up with my new found group of mummy friends around Kingston, I realise that there really isn't an awful lot of spaces and places that are safe for littlle ones to be rolling or running about. Yes, we like our coffee mornings or afternoons, but some of the poor wee mites who are old enough to run and climb kind of get bored. Where oh where are there cafes, or play areas that will accommodate both parents and child(ren). Does anyone know of anywhere apart from cafe au play, which has somewhat closed down.
You haven't said how many of you there are. For example Fratelli in Norbiton is a delicatessen and cafe, and has young children in it all the time. Some running around. Then there is the American Diner on the 3rd Floor of the Bentall Centre and Carluccios. If you are really desperate then you can go to Macdonalds. If you want to find out where the places are have a look in the business directory.
Eurgh can't bear the thought of using Macdonalds.
Fratelli does sound nice though I must admit. But really, what I'm after are cushie areas where you know babies and young toddlers are able to run around safely and without having to worry whether the manager or the owner will tell you to keep your little ones from running around or whatever. now I'm not adverse to using cafes etc but surely there must be an actual child/baby friendly space somewhere in Kingston irrelevant of how many mum's and babies are in the group?
I know that boho on Kings Road is child and baby friendly and it really can be a real gem. But it's also nice to know of other places too.
Used to be a Playpeople on the ground floor of Odeon centre opposite the bus station but it closed recently.. surprising considering the number of families around.
Esporta has creche, softplay, costa etc but of course you have to join.
Canbury Arms is child-friendly gastropub.
Pembroke Lodge in Richmond Park has child-friendly area plus of course lots of green space for kids to run around.
There's a proper kidsplay place off Putney High Street, behind Halfords.
It's definitely what Kingston is lacking.
Two local groups - Vital Kingston (tinyurl.com/ybykzu2) and All Saints Church (tinyurl.com/y9p6xmk ) - are campaigning to provide community spaces that people want to use in the centre of Kingston. Therefore it's a good idea to tell them your views on what you want in Kingston.
There is a wonderful little bar/cafe on the river called Woody's.
The decor is great with quirky a mish mash of styles. They have some wonderful homemade cakes. Good selection of hot drinks, decent wine list and beers.
The food is excellant and varied.
But the best thing about the place is the staff who are very welcoming and seem to actually enjoy having little ones in the place (there is even a selection of toys and books)
And if that wasn't enough the setting is lovely. You're on the river with Market Place and the Rose Theater seconds away.
Our 1 year old loves it there. The kids menu is great and reasonbly priced and Amelia has become worryingly addicted the froth off the hot chocolate.
There's going to be a great child friendly restaurant opening at 3 Jermome Place, Charter Quay in Kingston on 18th February, Brown's Bar & Brasserie which has an excellent children's menu and is part of the iconic Browns restaurants founded in 1973. http://tinyurl.com/4ehbckq
