Hi Buntieboo64, I was born in Dunswell, between Hull and Beverley. The thing that has always intrigued me since moving to this area is, why is Kingston upon Hull known as Hull, yet Kingston upon Thames is known as Kingston. Do you or anybody else know the reason for this??

I have never understood why Hull has such a bad reputation, I love going back to my roots. Although I cannot do it so often these days as I am confined to a wheelchair.
My absolute favouriite town is Beverley, I just love the way the town planners have matched all the new buildings to look the same as the older ones.
Reason why Kingston Upon Hull is called Hull is because it received the Hull part first. It was renamed Kingston upon Hull in the 13th Century. There as Kingston upon Thames has been called Kingston (with various spellings) since then 11th Century.
This is a site for Kingston Upon Thames NOT Kingston Upon Hull. I'm sure you guys can find a discussion site for Hull if you wish to discuss matters concerning Hull.
