By

now your New Year’s Resolution to be one of the people who you see

running regularly in Kingston may have fallen by the wayside, well

parkrun has come to the rescue!

On 15th

January they are doing a special parkrun event for First Timers in Old Deer Park, Richmond.

The

FREE event starts at 8.45am with a special briefing, where volunteers

will answer questions on running, followed by the 5KM run at 9am.

However

don't worry there will be a number of pacers who will walk/run you

around the course at various speeds, so however slow you think you are

there will be someone to help you along the way. The course at Old Deer

Park is flat and on grass plus consists of 3 laps allowing you to drop

out at anytime you feel you have had enough exercise.

And

once you feel confident about your running ability you can join one of

the weekly FREE Parkrun events nearer to home in Kingston, Richmond Park or

Teddington's Bushy Park, where the initial parkrun event started in

2004.

So

if you are interested in participating in the FREE event or just coming

and talking to the volunteers, you need to register here by 6pm on 14th

January. The

question and answer session will take place on the grass in the park

adjacent to the west wall of the “Pools on the Park" at 8.45am

And you never know this time next year you too could be one of those people you see running regularly in Kingston.

I much prefer to exercise outdoors and would love to give this a try. Although I belong to a gym the temperature is always either too hot or too cold once you start to build up a sweat. You just can't beat the fresh air!
