Cocktails At Tamesis - Kingston Rotunda Centre

On a very cold Saturday evening a couple of friends and I decided that we couldn’t face walking around Kingston in the chill so we popped into the Rotunda Centre for a bite to eat.  Afterwards we decided we wanted to have a drink.

Noticing Tamesis we went in to find that they had a cocktail special on - buy one get one half price.

So a couple of us thought we would try them out.  After lots of deliberating over the cocktail menu and eventually trying two each,  Pete decided that his favourite was a White Russian with a vanilla twist which was specially made up  for him.  Being a chocoholic I decided to try a Chocolate Martini and was pleasantly surprised by the large amount of chocolate in it.

The fact that one of their cocktail waiters was quite new in the role and had just happened to have made a mistake with some girls drinks didn’t put us off, as the other two waiters were clearly experienced.  Oddly the girls didn’t complain as if they had their drinks would have been replaced free.

Tamesis, is an independent Bar and Restaurant owned by 3 local people - Simona Patackaite, Paul and Tina Winten.  It opened in the summer and focuses on real British Food - serving generously proportioned main courses. It also serves a wide variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks as well as cocktails.   While some of the decor seems quite garish it has very comfortable seats and a pleasant atmosphere making in great place to have a meal or just a drink.

Hey, we went to Tamesis last night.
    What a great atmosphere!!
It was 6 of us and we ordered from their a la carte menu. The food was fantastic, I had the wood pigeon, which I never had before and my friends had the lamb shanks and steaks. I loved their chocolate pudding and my friend fell in love with their 3 of a kind dessert.
We then stayed for cocktails, which I must admit they are some of the best I have tried. The staff were very helpful and knowledgable and the head barman even mixed me my own personal cocktail. It tasted fantastic.
I found out that they are open until 3am on xmas and new years eve and I know exactly where I am going to spend both of them.!! Trying their own specially made xmas cocktails and shots. ***the 'naughty xmas present' cocktail is to die for***

Went there for a Christmas meal. Food was below average.

Thanks for the tip! There aren't many nice places in Kingston to have a cocktail and good food that aren't part of a big chain - might try it after the Christmas rush is over though!

A friend and I spoke to one of the owners (Paul?) when Tamesis first opened (we were browsing the menu outside and he came out to say hello) and he was really passionate about the opportunity of providing great British food. I've not managed to get back there yet but this has reminded me - thanks!

It doesn't look that enticing from the 65 bus, but will give it a go from your review. Cheers.
