On the day Imperial College announced that it would charge £9,000 a year tutition fees, Nick Hewer stated he was outraged by the Coalition's stance on tutition fees on a visit to Kingston University.

In response to a question from a student on the current Coalition's policy, Lord Sugar's right hand man said:

"It’s an absolute outrage because education is a right.

These measures will mean that students from poorer backgrounds will shy away from higher education, to their and the country’s detriment. And it’s very disappointing because some things the Coalition has done have been quite brave."

Kingston University prides itself on widening participation in higher education and has many students who are the first generation of their family to attend university.

All the students in the audience for ‘An Evening with Nick Hewer’ on February 9 had been specially invited because of their roles as student mentors, or leaders of university clubs and societies.

Mr Hewer told students that their extra-curricular activities where really important to employers plus talked about other topics including his role on The Apprentice and apprenticeships during his visit.
