Vice
President of Education for Kingston University’s Student Union
Chris Dingle said: “Kingston University Students’ Union welcomes
the motion from the Liberal Democrat conference, to explore cross
party support for a graduate tax, and we believe it is a golden
opportunity for the party to achieve what their voters mandated them
to do.”
“Vince
Cable in his speech today reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring
graduate contributions are linked to earnings and we believe that the
Liberal Democrats can be part of a constructive solution to the
higher education funding debate.”
“All
current Liberal Democrat MP’s have pledged to vote against tuition
fees, and it is now time for them to follow the mandate they were
given by voters at the last general election, and abolish tuition
fees with a fair and progressive graduate tax.”
KUSU
will continue to work with the NUS as part of the “Fund our Future”
campaign, and will be an active participant at the NUS/UCU
demonstration in London on Wednesday 10th
November.

This is a bit of a con trick by the Lib Dems. They have been caught out by actually ending up in power - they usually make promises knowing that they'll never have to fund their promises. It depends on how any graduate tax would work as to whether it would actually be better that the current system for students. If it does cost the taxpayer more, where are the cuts going to be made?
