Kingston Hospital Radio

The Kingston
Hospital Radio (KHR) had its first official broadcast in 1967, and gradually
grew into a successful Radio Station for patients of Kingston Hospital. This
valuable service offered to the patients brightens up their day and allows them
access to interesting conversations and music presented by volunteers.
Currently KHR has an abundance of volunteer workers who all give up their time
to present to patients, dedicating themselves to two or more hours a week. Unfortunately
as the regulations surrounding the employment of the volunteers are strict,
those under the age of 18 cannot participate. I’m keen to volunteer for work at
the radio station, however I find it increasingly difficult to put myself
forward as I’m not of age. However KHR is doing a brilliant job in offering a
worthwhile service to those who require it. Kingston Hospital has been able to
set an example to other hospitals and make it known that having someone caring
about your situation is comforting, this makes time in hospital so much more
bearable.
