Two million pounds unlocked for Kingston Better omes

Kingston Council have secured £2 million pounds have unlocked £2 million pounds, after improving nearly 200 homes in the borough. 

Madan and Ranjan Patel's home in Cross Road is the 195th to be modernised in the first phase of Kingston Council's five-year Better Homes project.

Better Homes is the biggest council housing investment programme in the borough. 

When finished all of Kingston Council's homes will meet the Kingston Better Homes Standard, exceeding the government's Decent Homes minimum standard.

The Patels now have a new kitchen and bathroom. Before work started they were able to choose kitchen work tops and units from a range of styles and colours.

Mr Patel said: "We are over the moon. We're very happy with our new kitchen and with the way the contractors went about their work."

Kingston Council Leader Councillor Derek Osbourne welcomed Mr and Mrs Patel to their refurbished home.

Councillor Osbourne said: "We're making big improvements to the quality of people's homes and their daily lives."

"We're making Kingston an even better place to live for thousands of our tenants, and it's great to see that the work is progressing well and being done to a very high standard."
