Don't Forget Battery Recycling Has Been Made Easier

As I previously tweeted (we are on
twitter @kingstonpeople ) the government on 1st February
implemented new rules to ensure the UK meets a EU Directive on
Battery Recycling to avoid being fined. This means that all retailers
who sell more than one pack of 4 AA batteries a day, 32Kg of
batteries a year, has to provide battery recycling facilities.
The British Retail Consortium Head of
Environment Bob Gordon said: "The aim of reducing the number of
batteries going to landfill is a good one. Retailers recognise their
responsibilities and they're ready with the facilities the law
requires but on its own that won't be enough.
All the evidence shows home collections
of recyclables are easiest for customers and produce the best
results. Developing these mustn't be ignored.”
Taking this on board, Kingston Council
has reminded householders that battery recycling is included as part
of the doorstep recycling scheme.
If like me you are not included in the
scheme, then the only council facilities provided is the Villiers
Road “Tip”.

ReportI think that is a good idea to recycle batteries but I also think that another way to deal with this issued would be to come up with ways to reduce battery usage.
