Doorstep Recycling for Flat Dwellers At Last
By OFadero | Monday, February 15, 2010, 17:40
After a few stories on here complaining about the lack of facilities, it
seems that Kingston Upon Thames Council have finally got their act together and worked out how to allow
residents who live in flats in the borough to do doorstep recycling.
Councillor Bob Steed, Executive Member for Environment,
Sustainability and Climate Change said: “Residents who live in
flats told us that they wanted to recycle, so we have worked hard to
design a service that will meet their needs.”
Through out 2010 flat dwellers will be receiving a brown food
caddy and a green resuable bag to store recycable waste in. These containers are for indoor storage of materials and will allow the following to be recycled:
Food
Paper
Cardboard
Glass
Tins and cans
Plastic bottles
I look forward to receiving my containers and the start of the new service instead of having to trek to the local large Sainsburys.

We are in maisonette flats so I whinged and moaned and pestered them to death (I think) to get the recycle guys get move just past the kerb to collect ours (and our neighbours). There were MANY emails to the council about this but we've had great service for the last 7-8months so the moral of the story is - whinge-ing works!
