The count hasn't finished yet but I have been informed that the Liberal Democrats retain control of Kingston Upon Thames Council.

The Conservatives come in second with currently 20 councillors compared to the Liberal Democrats 25.

I was informed by @KingstonTories that due to the vote being split between them and the Liberal Democrats the count took longer than normal. In addition the higher turnout due to the Local Elections being held on the same day as the General Election.

My mesage to the Avenue Dweller is yes, please do move out of the Borough, we have more than enough ignorant bigots around here who, every time an election is lost to the Liberal Democrats, come out with all the same old Tory bile in defeat.  The stupid and insulting prejudice you express against the Liberal Democrat Council administration is actually quite helpful to the cause of keeping the Royal Borough out of Conservative control, so I am a bit ambivalent about this, but on balance I would prefer you move away.  Alternatively you could actually find out about what the Council does, how its budgets are constrained and why we have a Council Tax so high, but I doubt you are going to do that because it requires intelligent reasoning and an informed understanding of other people's point of view.  May I suggest Dagenham as somewhere you will feel comfortable with the local politics?

    Final result was:

    Lib Dems 27 (up 2)
    Cons 21 (-)
    Labour 0 (-2)

Conservatives picked up a couple of councillors in Berrylands, Chessington and Old Malden, Lib Dems picked up the remaining labour seats in Norbiton.

The big result was Surbiton Hill switching from safe conservative to lib dem (otherwise the council would have been hung on 24-24 with no overall control)

I use to live in Wandsworth I've also spent a brief time living in London under a council that switched parties and a council that had Labour as  the ruling party for years.  The most competent one for local people was the council that  switched. In general politicians tend to  work harder at all times iif they are at risk of losing their seats.

Oh please god no. Lib Dems win Kingston again? Who the hell is voting for these incompetent buffoons? Have they brainwashed half the people in the borough? We have the highest council tax in the universe and dont even get our streets swept. Surely wading through the litter strewn streets en route to tthe voting station would have suggested to people that perhaps our local services are not what they should be? Dont you Lib Dem supporters consider the basics of local service provision before voting? I cannot comprehend how a council that charges so much for so little has been re-elected. Maybe I will move the Wandsworth.
