Protest and Debate at Westminster Parking Charges - Support Needed!
By OFadero | Friday, March 05, 2010, 14:36
I have just received this message from Susan Kramer's office about the Richmond Park and Bushy Park Car Parking Charges.
Betrayed
That's how I felt last night when I heard that the conservatives are refusing to back the vote in Parliament that would stop Richmond Park and Bushy Park Charges.
Let me be clear. The motion tabled by Jen Tonge in the House of Lords is a 'fatal motion' that would defeat the parking charge plans once and for all.
All we need is enough Conservatives and Lib Dems to vote together in the House of Lords to defeat the Government.
I though we had a cross-party commitment to scrap these charges as soon as possible. I'm just utterly shocked that the Conservatives now seem to want to deny local people the chance to see these plans stopped.
I have been proud that this has never been a party political campaign and that we have always had cross party consensus against the charges, working together with local people.
The debate is due to take place next Wednesday 10th March at 7.30pm the vote will be at 8.30pm in the House of Lords.
But there is still time for the Conservatives to change their minds and to join us to kill these charges on Wednesday.
I would like to invite you all to a protest on College Green at 6.45pm on the day to show how strongly we feel about this issue.
I want you to know that I will continue to fight tooth and nail to stop these charges, and I hope to see you on Wednesday.
Best Wishes
Susan Kramer

The Lib Dems failed anyway. Now they can go back to fighting the hospital cuts.

ReportI have no idea who to believe any more. But I'm sure this squabbling will do nothing to prevent the charges being brought in and staying in.

ReportThe letter you’ve received from Susan Kramer is a disgrace. Yet again, our MP has chosen to mislead voters in a desperate attempt to trick people into voting for her.
Only yesterday I was joined by Justine Greening MP and others outside Downing Street where we handed in a large banner that had been signed by hundreds of the protesters who had gathered in the Park at a mass-rally I organise to oppose the Government’s plans.
Despite what Susan Kramer has said, Justine Greening and I have persuaded the Conservative Party nationally to scrap the plans if they form the next Government. We have also tabled our own amendment to the Royal Parks proposals in the Lords that calls on the Government to withdraw its order and resubmit it without inclusion of the plans to charge for parking.
We are pressing the Liberal Democrats to support our amendment instead of pursuing their own ‘Fatal Amendment’ which we believe is clumsy and flawed. For one thing, it will force the Government to abandon all the Park’s proposals, some of which are perfectly acceptable.
Our alternative will deliver the same result, but without causing mayhem in other areas. If Susan Kramer stubbornly sticks to a proposal she knows we cannot sign, she will have allowed these charges in. Alternatively, she can back us up and kill off the charges. The ball is in her court. Will she go with petty politics, or will she – for once – prioritise the interests of our community?
Please do pass this email on to any of your friends who have been needlessly concerned by Susan Kramer’s latest email.
Very best wishes,
