The Church Campaign Group, Kingston Church School Appeal, want to reserve 40% of school places for Christians if the Diocese of Southwark wins Kingston Council's bid to build and run the new secondary school in North Kingston.
The group is backed by
local clergy, teachers and parents in the borough plus Kevin Davis,
the former Conservative Leader of the council.
Kevin Davis said earlier this week that:
“There is no reason
why a school with a religious ethos cannot be at the heart of the
community of North Kingston and I believe this is an exciting
opportunity for all parents to get a school they can feel proud of.
It is no accident that seven out of the top 10 primary schools in
Kingston are faith schools and real choice for Kingston parents would
be a Church of England secondary school."
Opponents have started a petition on the council website here

For goodness' sake, can't we move on from supernatural cults having a say in our childrens' education?
